Pope blesses the work of the Centre

The Centre is currently renting office space, with its library in storage, but remains hopeful that funds can be found to provide the Centre with its own space including access to the library. In anticipation of this, the Centre commissioned a commemorative plaque to be the foundation stone of a new building. On 7 November 2012, the director attended a general audience in Rome at which the Pope blessed this foundation stone, and in this action, blessed the work of the Centre. Upon meeting the Pope, the director introduced himself as being from the Anscombe Bioethics Centre in Oxford. The Pope replied 'Bioethics... we need bioethics', to which the director replied 'and we need your blessing on our work, Holy Father'. Grateful to receive this blessing the Centre also relies on the continuing prayers as well as the financial support of its friends. We are keenly aware that, 'unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain' (Psalm 127.1).
